SUNDAY SCHOOL

PLEASE BE IN PRAYER

In September we begin a NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL YEAR!  This is  a good time for many of us who have not traditionally been committed to a class to get a fresh start -- or a time for many of us who have "gotten out of the habit" of attending Sunday School to "get back in the habit"!!  You will find our materials challenging and members of our classes welcoming.  We hope to join with you in Sunday School for the start of a new year.  Hopefully, Summer has provided an opportunity to visit different classes to determine the best fit for your needs in Christian Education.

Attending Sunday School enables us to get to know each other better by putting names with faces, by being able to lift one another up in prayer and sharing our thoughts by discussing various topics.  There is a Class "just for you".  WON'T YOU GIVE IT A TRY?  Who knows?  You may like it!!

In addition, if you would be interested in teaching a class or serving as a substitute teacher, please call

Buddy Whitlow at 507-0339 or the church office at 795-2772

A brief synopsis is listed below for each class.  Why not take a few minutes to review--you may actually find something to be of interest to you--come and join us.  The Family of God at Laurel Hill UMC stands ready to welcome you with "OPEN MINDS, OPEN HEARTS, OPEN DOORS and OPEN ARMS".

(Located on the 2nd Floor of the Educational Building)

19 MONTHS to PRE-SCHOOL

Lively Bible stories with prompts for acting out the story, easy questions and short rhyming prayers are used for our inquisitive little ones.  This is the beginning step for young children in their religious development.  Children beginning to attend Sunday School at this early age will be assisted in preparing to attend a regular church worship service, participate in the children's message, attend or participate in children's church and be able to move forward in Sunday School as they grow.  The lessons are formulated to guide these young minds through the different areas of the Bible, while maintaining their attention.  The lessons are also formulated to be done within a short time-period because of their limited attention spans.  Classes are every Sunday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

A SILENT PAGING SYSTEM IS ALSO PROVIDED TO OUR PARENTS TO ENABLE THEM TO ENJOY SUNDAY SCHOOL AND WORSHIP, KNOWING THAT THEY CAN BE AND WILL BE REACHED IF THEIR LITTLE ONES NEED THEM.

FRIENDSHIP CLASS

This class is designed to offer religious instructions to adults with special needs (specifically residents of Heart Havens and Good Neighbor Village, located in our community).  The lessons are Bible centered units focusing on characters and/or events in the Bible.  Memorizing scripture, especially Psalms is practiced.  Crafts and special activities are incorporated into the lesson plan.  All sessions conclude with each member offering a special prayer to God.  On the 4th Sunday, the class sings a Special Song during the worship service.

John 7:14 (CEV) When the festival was about half over, Jesus went into the temple and started teaching.  The leaders were surprised and said, "How does this man know so much?  He has never taught!"  Jesus replied:  "I am not teaching something that I thought up.  What I teach comes from the One who sent me.  If you really want to obey God, you will know if what I teach comes from God or from me."
