Bits and Pieces Quilt Chapter - The Bits and Pieces Quilt Chapter meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the fellowship hall.  Guests are welcome: beginners and experienced quilters.  Meeting and program usually lasts two hours.  If you have any questions, please contact Arie Brandon (222-9211) or Meade Welch (795-1179).

Varina Woman's Club - If you like to knit or crochet or would like to learn this is the group for you!  The Varina Women's Club has a group that meets at Laurel Hill each Thursday morning from 9 - 10 AM to knit and crochet.  All levels of skill, from beginners to advanced.  They welcome anyone who would like to learn these handwork skills or just come to knit/crochet and enjoy the company.  You don't need to call, just come to church at the specified time and day.  We have a wonderful time and share conversation, patterns and skills.

Scouts -  Laurel Hill sponsors both Cub Scout Pack 501 and Boy Scout Troop 501.  Both groups follow the National Boy Scouts of America programs and guidelines.  The groups are members of the Heart of Virginia Council and the Council Office is in Richmond.  Cub Scouts are for boys in Grades 1-5. Boy Scouts are for boys in Grades 6-12

Boys can join Scouts at any time, but each year there is a School Night for Scouting at local elementary schools to enroll both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.  Summer activities for both groups include camping, hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities.

Cub Scouts meet in small groups called "Dens" regularly throughout the year to earn badges, belt loops and pins for various skills and accomplishments.  Many Cub Scout events include the entire family, such as the monthly Pack Meeting for all ages.

Boy Scouts meet weekly and focus on developing outdoor skills along with leadership training.  Boy Scout Troop 501 meets in the Scout house on Recreation Road on most Monday nights at 7:00 p.m.  More information on Scouting can be found at the National BSA Website, www.scouting.org or the Heart of Virginia Website, www.relc.bsa.org .  Contact the Heart of Virginia Council Office by phone during regular business hours for local information (355.4306).

Cub Scout Pack 501 is collecting gently used books and will take anything.  There are children, as well as adults, in need.  All the books will be distributed through the Virginia Department of Education.  For questions, call Cub Master, Roy Props at 795-1288.

Laurel Hill Members Are Active & Involved:  Aaron Hockaday is in Cub Pack 501 and Peyton Schmick, Gordon Schmick, Nelson Humphrey and David Duke are in Scout Troop 501.  Currently, the young men are selling popcorn.  This is the major fund raiser for scouting and pays for most activities and for camps during the summer.  If you have never had scout popcorn, you are REALLY missing a TREAT, because it is very good.  See a scout and buy some and support scouting!
